"...don't you know I'm king?"

A sentiment that many forms of incense would shout at Boswellia if personified. Though time would allow the reign of Frankincense to be long and illustrious, there were things of equal value in its time, outside of its natural range, and even prior to the first documented uses of Frankincense as incense. Resin incense use is documented as early as 2000 BCE in China ( alongside roots, herbs, and woods ), during the Indus Civilization - often in mixes similar to those of the Chinese, and even into prehistory in Egypt; found in some of the oldest tombs. To put it simply they have a history of human use at least 5500 years old, and that would be the low end. The uses, like Frankincense, ranged from healing balms to sacraments and would range across the old world and new, from early civilization in Mesoamerica, to the Mediterranean of the Golden era, to the edges of the Pacific.

Various resins or "balsams" have risen and fallen, and though it is likely no one will ever get to experience the true "Balm/Balsam of Gilead" of biblical fame ( where the term balsam was derived ), things like these still remain as some of the most important pieces of aroma history. Unfortunately, we can not turn back time, but we are still able to get a look into a not so distant past with the ones available today. It is likely that many of these species will be extinct within our lifetime, so if any of these resins interest you further, please attempt to obtain them with a soft hand and reverence for the future.

This kit includes the resin of 10 different sacred shrubs and trees, including a rare, almost never exported grade of an already uncommon resin - 10 in total. The kit also includes 4 different distillations of different resin types provided in the kit, with notes on the chemical composition of each ( full GC/MS upon request ) as well as how they relate to the core kits, and finally 3 new numbered Blue and Orange group additions: Blue #9: 4-Methylguaiacol, Blue #10: Eugenol, as well as Orange #9: Methyl Cinnamate - all of which key components in several different resins included in the kit.

Update: Waxing has been removed from all screw top glass bottles in an attempt to be more inclusive of those with any physical limitations. We are still happy to wax seal kit bottles upon request!

PSC Notes ( Crybaby ): Much like the "Beloved" expansion kit, there is a lot to unpack here. From the extremely rare chemical composition of Myrrh, filled with some of the least-frequently mentioned terpenes in aroma science, to distinct spins on chemical profiles that may look familiar to ones from Frankincense upon first glance. There will be a chance to test what you know about how these compositions may present, what lower-concentration compounds may be playing the biggest roles in their aroma, and whether they're seemingly similar to anything you're already familiar with. We've provided hookah-type / incense-type charcoal and a stainless dish to heat them, as unlike frankincense, most people outside of perfuming are inclined to simply burn these resins as sacrament vs. implicating them in a broader variety of uses. If you have the frankincense kit, the dish and coals will make burning them a breeze as well!
